Section outline

  • Brief content of the educational component:
The purpose of studying the discipline is for the learner to acquire knowledge of the causes and consequences of the destruction of road surfaces and to acquire the skills to prevent them at the stage of designing compositions and properties of concrete, technology, production during service in pavements. Accordingly, a theoretical and laboratory study of the influence of external and internal structural factors on the durability of concrete is provided.
The lecture course includes the study of: technological factors ensuring durability, the role of mechanical and temperature factors in the formation of plastic deformations, brittle fracture, as well as the influence of a corrosive environment and cyclic freezing-thawing on the durability of concrete and ways of increasing it, resistance against surface damage of pavements. Prospective materials resistant to mechanical and corrosion damage should be considered.
Laboratory lessons will include the latest methods of testing concrete, in particular: determination of strength under different schemes of the stress state, evaluation of modulus of elasticity and dynamic and static fatigue and the effect on fatigue of cyclic freezing and thawing, anti-icing substances.

After completing the course, the student must have the knowledge and skills to increase the durability of concrete.

Prerequisites for studying the educational component: the study of the discipline is preceded by the mastery of the discipline "Building materials science" and "General chemistry".

    Competencies:
